Artificial Nails
If you are a busy woman who doesn't have the time to spare on a manicure, or you can't wait for the fingernails you have
broken to grow out again, then you should make use of artificial nails. Also known as glue on or press on nails.
They are readily available wherever beauty products for women are sold. It is very important that you buy nails that conform
to the surface type of your fingernail. There are regular nail beds, high arch nail beds and flat nail beds. You need to select the one that best
fits the contours of your fingernails.
The quality of a package of these nails can vary greatly. The worst kind come attached to wheels made of plastic. The nails
are removed from these wheels by twisting them until they come off, leaving a little plastic nub on the nail from where it was attached. A better
option is the type where the nails are conveniently separated by size into trays. Normally the tray will separate the nails into five sizes,
sometimes six for larger or smaller finger nails.
You will need to buy glue to attach the nails. I would recommend that you purchase glue specifically formulated for artificial
nails, although you can just use super glue.
Before you glue the nails on you will need to prime your nails and shape the artificial nails.
Prime your fingernails by cleaning each nail bed with nail polish remover and then gently file the surface of each using a
soft nail file. The rough surface will allow the artificial nails to stay attached for longer.
After priming your fingernails you will then need to size the artificial nails for each finger, matching the size of
your fingernails with those of the artificial nails. The width of the nail bed will vary in size. If you find you are unable to exactly match
your size, simply select a nail larger than the width of your fingernail and file down the sides to match your nail's width.
You are now ready to attach the artificial nails. For each nail, apply glue thinly over the entire surface of the nail. Be
careful not to apply the glue too thickly as this will make the nail appear unnaturally raised. Now, holding the nail by it's tip, align it's
base against the cuticle of your fingernail and fit the nail over your own fingernail. Apply pressure and press firmly into place. Then, use your
thumb and index finger to pinch the artificial nail and the finger tip together, start from the base and work up to the tip. Repeat this for each
nail.
Once you have attached your artificial nails they can then be painted just like natural nails. The one down side to
using artificial nails is that each time you want a different color, a new set of nails is needed. if you try and use nail polish remover on the
nails, they will literally melt and disintegrate. Even so, I am sure you will be absolutely delighted with the results, especially when someone
compliments you on how beautiful your nails are. It is up to you whether or not you tell them they're not your own nails. If you were careful
when you attached them, they will look as natural as your own.
