Workouts For Beginners

There are two problems we face when starting an exercise program. Either we work out too hard or not hard enough.

Workouts for beginners can be challenging but they can also be too easy if we go out on our own. As an exercise enthusiast, I have learned some things over the years about workouts that are suitable for beginners that I will share here.

Too much too fast is never a good thing. If you are starting one of the beginner workouts, the chances are that you are not in the best shape.

You have to be careful about just jumping in. You may not be able to do more advanced exercises right away, and if your health is not as good as you would like, you can do damage to your body. When you are just starting out, make sure you take care choosing and following the correct workout, and that you learn all the basics before you start.

For some reason when we first start exercising, we seem to want to make up for lost time all at once. It is crucial that you remember that your workouts need to start slowly and gradually build in intensity over time.

I know that you want to see results as quickly as possible but exercising too much too fast will probably lead to injury. You are also less likely to stick to a difficult, demanding routine.

I learned my lesson the hard way. I joined a gym and I started walking a five mile trail with friends in the same week. I figured that walking is one of the best forms of exercise for beginners and the gym would also start me off as a novice.

After two weeks of soreness and 13 consecutive days of exercise I abruptly stopped the program. I also developed a violent aversion to exercise because I did not really start at the beginning. As a general rule, if you start abruptly you will stop abruptly. This does your body no good. Workouts for beginners should start off slowly, but not too slowly.

My second attempt at being a responsible, healthy adult went the opposite direction. I used workouts for beginners like walking and swimming making sure to only exercise three times each week. Unfortunately, I found that I wasn't seeing results I wanted. After two months I didn't lose an ounce and I didn't shrink one inch.

As any dieter knows, two months is an eternity when you are watching the scale. These workouts yielded no results because I wasn't challenging myself and pushing my body enough. I was never out of breath and my heart rate wasn't adequately raised.

When you first start working out make sure that you pose a challenge for yourself. Having an exercise buddy or coach can help you work out just right; not too hard and not too soft.

Your local gym will offer workouts specifically tailored for beginners. These programs are simple, and are made to ease you into the world of exercise. If you rush headlong into an hour-long aerobic workout, you are going to feel horrible when you are finished, if you finish at all. If you do this, you can end up in a lot of pain from the unfamiliar activity, and you are less likely to come back for more.

If you aren't comfortable with a gym, you can look online for more information on workouts for beginners. There are many sites that offer free downloadable instructions for simple beginner workouts, and offer tips to keep you moving. You will find some that are customizable. You can choose what activities you feel comfortable doing, and ones that will get you going at a good and easy pace.

One big lesson when starting to exercise is learning how to breathe. If you are not breathing correctly, your body will not the get the full impact of the workout. Breaths need to be slow and measured, and in time with your movements. This will help keep the oxygen flowing, and the toxins coming out at a good pace. Those who don't know how to breathe correctly will tire faster, and may end up dizzy.

If you want to give running a try, make sure that any running you do at first is short and sweet. The same should be done with walking. You should start out with short distances, and work your way up as you go. Even one trip around a city block might be enough to knock you out if you haven't worked out in a while, or if you are in poor shape. Start small, and then add time as you become healthier. Make sure you have great shoes before you begin, and dress for the time of year.
